It is said that a good idea is worth a billion dollars. When YouTube launched in 2005, the founders’ idea was to create a video-sharing platform that would make it easy to store and share videos with people. Little did they know that in a few years, their little idea would be worth billions of dollars.
restricted mode has hidden comments for this video
YouTube is the second most visited website on the Internet, preceded only by Google, its owner. Over the years, YouTube has become one of our favorite hobbies. We watch YouTube videos when we are free; we see them when we have been busy and want to take a break; we see them alone and with friends and family. We watch YouTube anywhere, anytime.
Videos on YouTube are not just videos. They represent the latest events, news and trends around the world. But as much as videos are at the core of YouTube, they’re not the whole thing. And this fact is what sets YouTube apart from most other similar sites. We don’t just watch videos on YouTube; we also interact with the uploader and other viewers. This interaction is facilitated by the Comments Section of the platform.
How many times has it happened to you that you saw an interesting YouTube video but you did not go to the Comments section? If your answer is “rarely,” you’re not alone. For most of us, the experience of watching videos is incomplete without watching and leaving comments. In fact, the comments are sometimes just as interesting as the video.
So when you watch a video and go to the Comments section only to see a message, “Restricted mode has hidden comments for this video”, we understand how annoying it can be. That’s why we put together this blog to help you fix this problem.
How to fix “Restricted mode has hidden comments for this video” on YouTube
If you see this message, it’s probably because Restricted Mode is active on your device or browser. But that is not the only reason, as discussed in the previous section. Restricted mode can be the result of one of several factors. Let’s discuss how to solve each of them one by one.
Disable restricted mode on your device
The most common reason behind seeing the above mentioned message is that Restricted Mode is enabled on your device. You or someone else may have activated it in the past and forgotten about it. You can no longer see comments on videos you watch. To remove this error, you need to disable Restricted Mode for your device. Follow these steps to do this on your devices:
In your mobile app:
Step 1 – Open the YouTube app on your phone.
Step 2 – Tap on the Profile icon at the top right corner of the screen.
Step 3 – You will see a list of various options on the next screen. Tap on the Settings option.
Step 4 – On the Settings page, tap on the first option, General.
Step 5 – You will see the Restricted Mode option near the bottom of this page. If the button next to it is enabled, turn it off.
That’s it. You have disabled restricted mode. You can now go back and watch videos and view comments as usual.
On the desk:
Step 1: Open your browser in which you think Restricted Mode is active.
Step 2: Go to https://youtube.com and sign in to your account.
Step 3 – Click on your profile icon in the top right corner of the screen. A floating menu will appear.
Step 4: Restricted Mode will be the last option on this menu. Check if it is active.
Step 5: If you see Restricted Mode: On, click it and turn off the toggle next to ACTIVATE RESTRICTED MODE.
The page will refresh automatically as soon as you disable restricted mode. You should now see all the comments for the videos you watch.
Contact your system administrator
If you see this issue on a public computer at your school, university, library, or any other public institution, you may not be able to disable Restricted Mode on the computer. This may be because your system administrator has enabled restricted mode for all computers in your institution.
In such a case, you only have one option: contact your administrator and explain the problem. Only they can help you.
